NID Card Check Bangladesh — online BD NID download guide
How to check whether your Bangladesh national ID card is ready and download it as a PDF from the Election Commission portal — the whole process, in order, with the points where people actually get stuck called out. Free, with no ads and no data collection.
Which government address is the real one
Three official addresses have nearly the same name, and picking the wrong one is the most common way to waste an evening.
services.nidw.gov.bd
Registration, login, NID card download, corrections and reissue applications. This is what "NID service" usually means.
nidw.gov.bd
General information, notices and the fee schedule. You cannot log in or download a card here — it links through to the portal.
ecs.gov.bd
The Election Commission's own site — electoral rolls and administrative notices. Not needed for NID services.
How to check and download your NID card online
This is the new-voter path, which is the longest one. If you already have an NID number and a password, you skip straight to step eight.
- 1
Get four things within reach
Your voter registration slip (it carries the form number), your exact date of birth, the SIM you gave during registration — the OTP goes only there — and an Android phone with a working camera.
- 2
Open the official portal
Go to services.nidw.gov.bd and choose "Register". This is the only official address. Do not enter your details on any other site that appears in search results.
- 3
Prefix the form number with NIDFN
If you are a new voter, type NIDFN immediately before the slip number, with no space — form number 123456789 becomes NIDFN123456789. This single step is where most people get stuck.
- 4
Enter date of birth as DD-MM-YYYY
Day first, then month, then year. Use Latin digits (0-9); Bengali digits are silently rejected with no error message. Then type the captcha exactly as shown, matching upper and lower case.
- 5
Select the address you registered with
Division, district and upazila, in that order — the address on your registration form, not where you live now. Reaching this screen already confirms your registration exists on the server.
- 6
Verify your mobile number (OTP)
The last digits of the registered number are shown. Tap send, then enter the six-digit code. If that SIM is gone for good, you must visit your upazila election office — the number cannot be changed online.
- 7
Face verification with the NID Wallet app
A QR code appears. Install "NID Wallet" from the Play Store, scan the code with it, then turn your face slowly left and right. Face a window so the light is on you, and remove glasses, mask and cap.
- 8
Set a password and download the card
After verification you set a password — keep it, because it lets you log in later without repeating face verification. Then press Download on the dashboard to get the PDF copy of your NID card.
NID check by SMS to 105
If the portal is down or you have no data connection, the SMS gateway still answers.
NID <form number> <DD-MM-YYYY>
Send it to 105. Single spaces only, dashes in the date, Latin digits. The reply carries your NID number and name.
10, 13 or 17 digits — what yours means
All three are valid NID numbers, but they are not interchangeable across online forms.
Smart card NID
The current format, printed on the plastic smart card. Accepted everywhere today.
Old NID
The first four digits are your birth year; the rest encode registration area and serial.
Old NID, year omitted
The same number as the 17-digit one without the birth year. Many online forms reject it — prefix your four-digit birth year to make it 17.
Three rules that prevent most NID fraud
Identity fraud around NID services is common in Bangladesh and mostly follows the same few patterns.
Payment means fraud
Your first NID card download is free. Every offer to "get it done faster" for money is a scam.
Never share an OTP
No government office will ever phone you and ask for the code. If someone does, they are stealing your identity.
Check the address bar
Enter your details only on an address ending in gov.bd. Never on this site either — we ask for nothing.
Frequently asked questions
- Is NID card download free?
- Yes. Downloading your own NID card from the Election Commission portal is completely free, as many times as you want. Anyone asking for payment to "speed it up" is running a scam. Only corrections and reissues carry an official government fee.
- Can I check my BD NID without internet?
- Yes. From any mobile, send an SMS to 105 in the format: NID <space> form number <space> date of birth as DD-MM-YYYY. You will get your NID number and name in reply. It works on every operator.
- Can I download my NID card from abroad?
- Yes, with two caveats. The OTP is sent only to the Bangladeshi number registered with your NID, so you need access to it. And turn any VPN off — the portal frequently blocks foreign IP addresses.
- Is the downloaded PDF legally valid?
- The copy downloaded from the official portal carries a QR code and a digital signature, so it is valid. It is normally accepted for bank accounts, SIM registration, passport applications and job applications. A few institutions still ask to see the physical smart card.
- Can I check someone else’s NID number?
- No, and you should not try. Face verification is mandatory, so the cardholder must be present. Collecting or using another person’s identity details without consent is a punishable offence under Bangladeshi law.
- Can I download my NID without face verification?
- No. The Election Commission made face verification mandatory in 2021 precisely so that nobody else can download your card. Any website claiming to bypass it is fraudulent.
